Maffa is the story in 4-3 OT win. |
| Week 9
Paul Maffa left the game with a foot injury after blocking a shot, but returned to score the game winner in OT on a penalty shot. The same cannot be said for Andy Long who left the game with a leg injury that we later found out was a broken ankle. The bad news is he's out for a while and will be known as the player who is not as tough as Paul Maffa. The good news is, he has a great foot doctor that said he'd have Andy on his knees again in no time.
As far as the game goes, Bob Caggiano scored a great goal off of a Laker defenseman to put the Yanks up 1-0. Steve Bitch Hardy was then spoonfed by Albano and Chappy for a 2-0 navy lead. In the 2nd, John Teal's blast hit Jim Wilkinson and went in, then Teal got one through clean for another goal, and it was 2-2. Late in the period Maffa returned from the locker room. He had blocked a shot earlier in the game and left in alot of pain. He went in on a 2 on 1 with Mark Kramer. Apparently Maffa was hurt more than expected. He must have been running a huge fever or something, because he passed the puck to Kramer who scored the easy goal. "Damn, we gotta get Paul to a doctor quick, did you see him make a pass on a 2 on 1? To Kramer," said Rick Armand. "He's hallucinating !!!!" In the third the Lakers saw pick 45 go down with an ankle injury behind the net, in what some people are calling a cheap shot by Dan Huber. Actually they got tangled up, but that doesn't make for an interesting story. "That's Dan's reputation, or atleast that's what you find when you google him," said Bill Osbahr. "I hope Andy isn't out long. It's gonna be hard to replace his 2 assists he gave us this season." Andy is in fact done for a while with a broken foot/ankle. But that doesn't mean we can't still make fun of him on the website, does it ? The Lakers did rally for Andy by getting the tying goal from John Clarke with 5 minutes left. But Maffa was the story. He outraced Dan Santanello for the puck in OT, and got hooked by Danny Boy earning a penalty shot. Maffa easily beat Benassi on his charity shot, giving the Yankees a thrilling 4-3 OT win.
