Defenseless Splits lose large again, 9-5. |
| Week 7
"When Saia is your most consistent player, your team is in trouble," said one player on the Banana Splits as the gold team lost again. Saia had the first goal, and the last goal of the day for the Splits, both turned out to be meaningless except to him. The last place yellow team actually took a 3-1 lead after one period before allowing 8 of the next 11 goals. Bob Desrosiers snapped home two goals early in the 2nd to tie it, as Saia went minus two in just over a minute. "I'm tired of doing everything on this team," said Saia. (Perhaps a new car would help?)
Bill Osbahr and Jon Morin would each score for the Cones as the onslaught continued, but Dan McCarthy and Saia each slid one by Cooz to keep the Splits in it for a while longer. Another Morin goal, then two by Bruner and a much needed Kotex goal by Bobrycki with under a minute left gave the Snow Cones the easy 9-5 win. "I worked my ass off for that goal," said Bobrycki. Just about everyone except for Speed and Jimmy D. got goals for the red team. "Can we just keep playing this team? I feel I'm ready to break out of my slump any time," said Speed. "Ah well, it's your typical summer season, no defense," said Ed Coughlin. "I thought that was last season?" retorted Al Peterson. "We really miss Rick Murphy and his two assists and Mark Wood and his minus 11 rating," said Mike Uretsky from the penalty box.
