Sand Bags come off late, 6-5 BB's. |
| Week 7
After "falling behind" 5-3 with 7:00 left in the game, Best Buy "got lucky" with 3 goals in a 1:16 span to pull off a Red Sox like comeback over Target. "I knew something was up when I saw the Boston Sand and Gravel truck pulling out back around 6:15am," said Paul Albano. With Speed Bratt donning the goalie pads, it looked like the red Target team was looking at a pretty bad loss.
"We figure with Vieira in net we lose by two, with Eric in net we lose by three," said John Gambale. "Guys this is Speed we're shooting on," said Bobrycki smacking his lips like he was sitting down for Thanksgiving dinner. "Shoot from everywhere, I am. I plan on cracking the top 20 in scoring after today." Speed surprised all and turned in a great game in the nets. There were a couple of soft goals, but for the most part the Speedster was solid. In fact Target had a 2-1 lead after one period. Tripp tried to rally the blank-bagging Best Buy team, but on one particular rush to the net he was buried by Rick Armand. Tripp went flying as did the contents of his purse. After two periods Speed and the red team were up 4-3. Three goals on Speed? Was the gold team even trying? What were all the pails and shovels doing on the gold bench? "If we go to OT, is Speed their token C player?" asked Tripp. With seven minutes left Paul Maffa jammed home his 2nd of the game on a very shaky Rene Fijux to put the red team up 5-3. "Rene was skating like Mark Kramer today," noted Maffa. "Wobbling and almost falling down on every shot. I'm surprised I only scored two." Then with 4:00 left, the blank-bags were put away on the Best Buy bench. "Execute order 66," said Bill Osbhar. Mike Cormican used Marc Teal as a turnstile, practically running out of quarters in the process. Cormican scored two and then spoon fed Jeff Whittemore for another, all in a 1:16 span. Game. Sand. Match. Target did try to pull Speed with a minute left for the extra attacker, but by the time Speed actually got to the bench the game was over. (All kidding aside, Eric played great in net for someone who is not a regular goalie. O'Connor better watch out.)
