Vieira blows shutout late in 3rd.

Week 5

Mike Vieira had stopped all five Toys R Us shots, and had a shutout going until the final 3:35 when Rick Murphy jammed one home from the slot to ruin the shutout.

To add a bit more salt in the wound, Mike Uretsky snapped another one home a minute later to cut the 6-0 lead to 6-2 with still two full minutes left.

Half the guys thought the puck never went in on that 2nd goal, as it was laying on the back of the net.

Luckily the experienced ref crew saw the puck go into the net and identified the hole it came out of, and the goal stood.

But we shouldn't spend the entire recap tooling on the poor street hockey goalie.

This was only his 2nd win of the season, so let's cut the boy some slack.

The bigger story of the game was at the other end and the new pads of Beans Benassi. They were way to big !!!

After Speed Bratt deposited the 6th straight Target goal into the Toys R Us net, Benassi was already taking the new pads off.

"They're too big I think," said Benassi. "I know that Albano spoon fed Bratt on that 3 on 1, but still I should have stopped that weak fluttering shot. I'm going to have to pack these things up and send them back to www.makemeabettergoalie.com."

"Bigger is not always better as I always say," said Tony Maffeo. "I also say that Wood in the morning is a good thing, but today our defense was terrible."

Jack Gavin figured in just about all of the Target goals, just ask him.

"I think he assisted on the other teams' goals too," noted Gambale.

Rick Armand was more than a little peeved that Albano dropped the pass to Speed on the 3 on 1 break that made the score 6-0, and not to him.

"I was totally open at the side of the net," commented Armand. "It was an easy Kotex point for me, then he goes and does something like that. I was fighting against trades this season, but now I'm thinking my stats won't be able to handle many more selfish plays like that."

Lost in all the hoopla was George Anderson's multi point game. He is way better than the Good Neighbor.
