No goalies makes for a Kotex game.

Week 5

Can you find the red goalie in this picture?

Neither can we.

The goalie woes continue this season, and this time there was no one to jump in and save the day.

At least this week, Cooz let his captain know he wasn’t going to be there. He even stated he would DEFINITELY have a goalie to fill in for him. His fill in choice … Luke Dobie. Yes that’s right … The same Luke Dobie who was kicked out of the league for not calling and not showing up. Of course, Luke stayed true to form and blew off his hockey brethren. Perhaps a bigger mistake was made by the League Commissioners when they told Beef they wouldn’t need the extra goalie equipment this week (I don’t know why … if we knew Sharon’s mother was going to help her out, she could have at least carried the equipment!).

The 4 stars of this game … yes one more than the usual 3 … were none other than Peterson, Whitey, Coughlin and Hardy. All took turns playing goalie with no equipment. Jack Gavin did take one turn, but quickly abandoned his responsibility when he saw the late arriving Trevor Hanson.

Speaking of Trevor, he was quite the gentleman all morning. He kept his 100mph slap shots low and on the ice. The only thing that was injured was a few skate blades. Of course, this totally frustrated the captain of the Shamrock Shakes. You could hear him yelling the entire game … telling his team to shoot the puck up high and get as many goals at all costs. The evil Armand certainly followed his own game plan by firing pucks at head level all game. He almost caught Coughlin in the chin and took out Hardy’s ring finger from center ice.

As the four defenseless Cone defensemen did their best goaltending impersonations, Rollie the goalie did his best to keep the Cones in the game. I mean come on! He let in 7 goals and he had all of his equipment. Applying the USA Hockey weighting system for teams without goaltenders against teams with a fully equipped goaltender, you divide the Shamrocks goals in half. For you math illiterates, the Cones actually won the game 7 to 5.5.

This recap could go on and on … but honestly … when one team’s goalie doesn’t show up … does anything more really need to be said?
