Breed's goal* gives Toys the 3-1 win. |
| Week 12
When is a goal not a goal? When Mike Cormican says it's not. Rick Breed tapped home a shot from the slot in the 2nd period, and that controversial goal* stood up for the game winner. "We started the season off so well but the past three weeks we've gone to this place commonly know as Kramerland," said one unidentified Best Buy hanger. "It's alot like Chutes and Ladders without the Ladders." Chris Vieira had a strong game, as he showed how he can go both ways at the drop of a hat. Along with some solid backchecking, he also scored the game's first goal. Some terrific work by Breed and John O'Connor set up Vieira in front. Though Vieira fanned on his shot, it still got by backup goalie Rollie Graham for a 1-0 Toys R Us lead.
A nice play by Rick Bobrycki set up Bill Osbahr
in front for a soft goal of his own and it was 1-1. "Our player standing by the net swears the puck never crossed the line," said yet another anonimis Best Buy player. Or was it the same one? "The ref, standing in the corner, said it did cross the line," continued the player who went pointless and shall remain nameless. "This is the same ref who can spot a nickle in the crease from the far blue line. So one of our players complained (ok, it was Tripp) to the other ref who asked if it was close, like horseshoes. I'm just surprised it wasn't called a ringer and they gave Breed three points. Is it too late for trades?"
A super steal by Phatt Deskin from Bobrycki led to a chase right out of The Dukes of Hazzard. Phatt won the race and easily scored on Rollie, as the Dukes couldn't catch Boss Hog. That goal ensured we didn't have OT, and the frustrated first seed Best Buy team would drop their third game in a row to end the regular season, as Beans Benassi stood on his head in the final two periods holding the BB's scoreless. "We were fine until all 13 guys started showing up," said Andy Long. "That takes key guys like Al Peterson off the ice more."
The Bruins used to call Cam Neely Cy (Young)
because at some points of the season he would have a line of 16 – 4
(goals/assists)…with a record like that he would be well on his way to
winning the Cy Young if he was a baseball pitcher. Neely didn’t
like it much. You have to give Pat Deskin the Cy Young award with a 12-2
line…2nd place Andy Long @ 9-3…3rd to Don Fortini with a 9-4 line. See you all in two weeks for the playoffs.
