Cones win all four over Splits, 6-4. |
| Week 11
There was a running joke back in May at what would happen first, a 2nd Banana Split win or the oil in the Gulf to be capped. It looks like BP won. It's not often a team wins all four meetings against another team, but it happened with the red Snow Cones got by the yella Banana Splits 6-4 on Friday morning, and boy were they yella. It started off good for the Splits, taking a 2-0 lead.
But it wasn't the Snow Cone superstars who rallied the red team, it was the old guys like Gavin, Chappie, and Desrosiers that had them on top 4-3 after two periods. Still the Splits wouldn't go away. Paul Albano would be spoon fed by Rick Murphy and Saia to tie it up at 4-4 with 17 minutes to play in the third. "I think we all kind of felt bad for this team, but in the end we just couldn't bring ourselves to lose to them," said Al Peterson. It wasn't the offense who won it for the red guys. It was the defense. Whitey Trabucco and Jon Morin sealed the deal with a pair of goals shortly after a Mike Saia penalty ended. "They never recovered from the Saia penalty," said Steve Hardy. "It was lazy, foolish, and a bad play at the time, something I'm not familiar with." With the loss the Splits still backdoored into the playoffs with seed number four, whilst the Cones have one last shot at stealing the top seed next week, but they gotta win and have these lowly Splits beat the Shakes.
