Toys win a penalty marred game, 6-4. |
| Week 10
With many of the league scoring leaders playing in this game, and Vieira and Benassi guarding the nets, we knew a 10 goal game was not out of the question. This game was decided well before the opening face off though. "I walk into the locker room this morning and Teal, Gavin, Gambale and Albano are talking about Romper Room and Miss Jean or Miss Barbara or whatever her name was!" said Rick Armand. "Then Gambale starts reminiscing about Mr. Moose on Captain Kangaroo. Now no one is thinking hockey. Unbelievable...just minutes before a battle for last place. Is it too late to trade for Mike Saia?"
He scored the first goal of the game and Target was off and running. Armand made it 2-0 and it looked like a romp through Romper Room for the red team. The Toys fired back with three goals on a bewildered Vieira in just five minutes, and the teal team stole the lead. The Toys would score a pair in the 2nd to grab a 5-4 lead, and that's all they would need. Beans Benassi slammed the door on the red team in the third. Ted Miller then welded it shut with an empty net goal in the final minute.
"We had a lead for our goalie too, but he couldn't hang one," said Paul Maffa. "I've played goal, it's not that hard." With three rostered goalies in Vieira, Maffa, and Bratt, captain Armand has not indicated who will be the starting goalie for Target in the playoffs. "First I have to get past Paul Albano in the scoring race, then I can get back to thinking about what's best for the team," commented Armand.
